Penn Hills Varsity Cheerleaders Honored for Winning Statewide Community Service Award
On Saturday, May 18, 2024, Penn Hills Rotary hosted an awards luncheon at Penn Hills Senior High School. The event honored the varsity cheerleaders, who were the recipient of the 2024 PIAA Champion Team Spirit Award for outstanding community service and sportsmanship, an award that Rotary helped recommend the team for. Our organization was honored to host the team, their families, school district personnel, and elected officials to celebrate this achievement.
State Representative Joe McAndrew (D-32nd District), a fellow Rotarian, presented each of the cheerleaders with a proclamation from the State House of Representatives. In addition, Rotary presented cheerleading coach Dr. Lisa Coffey, also a fellow Rotarian, with a commemorative plaque. Several community leaders spoke in support of the team, including Penn Hills councilman Alan Waldron along with several school board members.
Rotary has been working with the varsity cheerleaders for about two years now. They volunteer at various events around the community. Their efforts have helped Rotary contribute to local food banks, youth sports programs, community beatification, volunteer fire departments, literacy programs, scholarships, and so much more. Our organization is deeply appreciative for our partnership with this team. Event after event, we are reminded that the varsity cheerleaders are professional, hard working, dedicated, and smart. This team truly make us Penn Hills proud.
The presence and hard work of the cheerleaders while volunteering at events shows the community just how important the sports programs in Penn Hills are. It shows the community that the varsity cheerleading program is more than just cheerleading – it helps build character, sportsmanship, and instills a sense of pride in the community we call home.
Thank you and congratulations!
